Icon Sets

There are five icon sets that come bundled with BPP:

  • “bright-matte”
  • “dark-matte”
  • “universal”
  • “black”
  • “white”

Choose an icon set on the BluPlusPlus General tab.

The “dark-matte” icons are edged with black to give a distinct edge of the blue against the background.

The “bright-matte” icons have a white edge around the blue icon.

With both the bright- and dark-matte icons, the use of a colored edge and anti-aliasing help to provide a smooth-looking edge to the icons when used with their intended backgrounds. But, if used against a yellow background, for example, both would look bad because of the contrast between the edge colors and the yellow background.

The “universal” icons have neither a white nor black edge. That is why they look best for other background colors. The downside is that they may look slightly more jagged.

It is possible to create one’s own icon sets and have them automatically picked up by the BPP interface. Directions are here.
